Village widow receives Cow For Life and a new future for her family and the village orphans
Cows For Life - Supporting Self Sufficiency in Ministry
Many people in Africa and other parts of the world have no opportunity for work and thus struggle daily to provide food and shelter for there families. God has called some of these men and women to serve in the mission field, but they have no means of physical support and welfare. With ONE cow, Grow Missions can provide a family with an ongoing self support system that grows and increases over time. Able to provide for their families, these workers now nurture and provide for others in their community. ONE cow goes further than you think!
Since we started this program in 2007, we have provided more than 24 people with Cows. These Elders or Widows were selected based on strict criteria and recommendations from our Ministry Council in Kenya. To date ALL the cows (and families) are healthy and serving the Lord. 10 are in calf now and the donated funds from others have provided cows for more people in the region.
Please, help the local people in Kenya and Burundi to help themselves. If we empower the local lay workers, they will take the message of Jesus' love to all they see. All this for only one cow!
Sister Francis
When we learned about Sister Francis, we were amazed to hear of how hard she worked for the church and how little she had and the struggles her family faced. Widowed more than three years before, Francis was left with three small children and no means of supporting her family. With a strong faith, Francis continued to work for the church and help others even when her family was living on one meal per day and had no hope for the next.
When Francis's husband died of HIV/AIDS, she was left with nothing but her health. Feeling that she was blessed to not be infected, she dedicated her life to following God. But how will she survive? No one was left to care for her and while some of the village families helped out, they were struggling. When we told Francis she was to receive a Cow for Life from Grow Missions she jumped for joy and wanted to meet us and express her thanks.
One of the requirements for receiving a cow is that the family builds a shed for the cow to sleep in and another for the food. THis takes most families several weeks or more and requires support from the village to complete the work. This is in most cases! Francis gathered help from the village and had her shed constructed in just two weeks, even before we provider her the funds for the materials!
We know that Francis and her family will be a blessing to the entire village as she cares for the cow and provides milk for her children and the families around her. Now that she has a self supporting industry, her life and that of her children has changed forever. One cow makes a big difference in the lives of those that have so little. Join us!
